MNRE is actively promoting local manufacturing of solar panels through PLI schemes, customs duties, DCR, and procurement preferences for domestic content.

Recent MNRE notifications clarify that DCR-compliant monocrystalline-silicon solar cells must be manufactured in India using undiffused silicon wafers (black wafers), with all major cell processes carried out domestically.
